Catherine's Background
Catherine has nearly two decades of experience in the college admissions field. She has an in-depth understanding of both how applications are evaluated and of the personal and intellectual qualities admissions officers are seeking in successful applicants. Her background includes:
- Masters Degree in School Counseling from the University of San Diego (2010)
- External 'holistic review' reader for University of California at San Diego (2012-2015)
- San Diego County Chair for the Duke University Alumni Admissions Advisory Committee (2000-2011)
- Dual Degrees in Zoology and History, Duke University (1986)
Over the years, Catherine has provided support in high school four-year planning, college admissions counseling, essay brainstorming and revision, group presentations to students and parents, and individual academic, social and personal counseling. She has also presented workshops on interview skills and, as a member of PACE, presented an innovative "Unbranded" blind college fair, Mock Admissions sessions, and workshops on the transition to college.


Additionally, Catherine has made small group presentations on high school four-year planning, résumés, admission interview skills, and the college search process. She happily presents information sessions on "Selective College Admissions" at Admissions Case Studies, College Information Nights, and College Fairs. She is an active member of a number of professional associations and participates in regular meetings with colleagues and admissions personnel to remain up-to-date on all of the developments in the college application process.
She is a Professional Member of the Independent Educational Consultants Association, an affiliate member of the Higher Education Consultants Association, and a member of the National Association for College Admissions Counseling. These affiliations allow her to share and learn from other professionals in the admissions counseling field.
Members maintain a commitment to staying abreast of emerging trends in college admissions by attending professional development conferences.

As a parent, with twin daughters who graduated from college in May 2018 and a son who graduated from college in May 2013, she brings a wealth of personal experience and compassion to her work with students and their families. When Catherine isn't watching Duke Basketball games or going on college tours, she is taking her mini Australian Shepard, Blue, on walks.
